Gavin Rice

Gavin Rice

Gavin Rice is a postdoctoral fellow in the Rebeiz Lab at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Ph.D in Genetics from the University of California, Davis, where he worked with Artyom Kopp to study the genetic mechanisms that lead males and females to produce different traits in Drosophila. To build on this resource, he will focus on the genetic basis of phallic diversity in the Drosophila melanogaster species group. @gavinrrice

Ben Vincent

Ben Vincent

Ben Vincent is a postdoctoral fellow in the Rebeiz lab at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Ph.D in Genetics and Genomics from Harvard University, where he worked with Angela DePace to study how developmental enhancers function and evolve in fruit fly embryos. To build on this resource, he will focus on the genetic and cellular causes of genital diversity in D. simulans and D. mauritiana, which should provide the community with additional resources for comparative studies of gene regulation in the melanogaster clade. @benjvincent

Gabriella Wong

Gabriella Wong

Gabriella Wong built this website using mySQL (creates the database), HTML & CSS (builds and designs the site), JavaScript (makes the site functional), and PHP (communicates with the server). She has degrees from UC Davis and Columbia University, and received training in web development from AcademyPGH. She remembers how frustrating it was to learn how to code, and she's always willing to take the time to explain how coding works. If you want to create a searchable database, or to collaborate on a project, contact her.

Kayla Downs

Kayla Downs

Kayla Downs is an undergraduate researcher in the Rebeiz Lab. She is currently a junior at the University of Pittsburgh, where she is majoring in Molecular Biology. To help build this resource, she collected pupae and imaged pupal genitalia. Kayla plans to pursue a master’s degree in genetics.

Jessica Shastay

Jessica Shastay

Jessica Shastay is an undergraduate researcher in the Rebeiz Lab. She is currently a senior at the University of Pittsburgh, where she is majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. In this project, she collected pupae and imaged pupal genitalia. Jessisca hopes to continue working with the FlyGenitalia team in the coming year, and she plans to pursue a career in healthcare.

Kenechukwu Charles-Obi

Kenechukwu Charles-Obi

Kenechukwu Charles-Obi (KC) is an undergraduate researcher in the Rebeiz Lab at the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently in his final year at the University of Pittsburgh, where he is majoring in Neuroscience. For this project, he collected pupae, dissected pupal genitalia, and imaged them. After receiving his degree, KC plans to attend medical school.
